Description:
The Assistant Dean of Students will assist students who are struggling with navigating the resources and support on campus, in an effort to improve the coordination of care and the retention of our students. This position will lead comprehensive approaches to address distressed and distressing students. The Assistant Dean of Students bridges the gap between individual students, on- and off-campus services, and internal processes and staff. Through that work, efforts and interventions will be tracked in order to best determine efficacy; improvements will be suggested to increase retention. The Assistant Dean supports the Dean of Students through coordination of student conduct cases and can lead in the Dean’s absence. The position also oversees the planning and implementation of New Student Orientation and the First Year Experience course. As such, they supervise the professional and student staff that contribute to these first year programs.
Qualifications:
Masters Degree in higher education, counseling, social work, or related field and 5 years of experience. Effective oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; outstanding problem solving skills; the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community. Ability to interface with internal and external constituents with diplomacy and tact. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Attention to detail. Preferred: Experience with college students, especially in a liberal arts college setting.
