Researches market conditions, trends, products, and services in insurance industry specifically as it relates to Grinnell Mutual and our immediate competitors to assist in accurate decision making related to future of company.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Researches industry trends and direction, especially as it relates to both property/casualty and reinsurance, to ensure Grinnell Mutual proactively responds and prepares for changes in regulatory and customer environments. Research will include both primary methods (interviews, focus groups, surveys) and secondary (journal publications, professional documents, and regulations) to help fulfill the demand required for strategic planning and business unit objectives.

Monitors competitor activity in current and potential writing areas to remain competitive and responsive to changes as Grinnell Mutual formulates its strategic initiatives and areas of opportunity for future business and direction. Forecasts and tracks trends as appropriate to business needs.

Analyzes data and communicates the actionable and strategic implications for Grinnell Mutual in key areas such as industry trends, market size, competitor capabilities, customer buying criteria, purchase process, price sensitivity, channel requirements, and technology.

Prepares and presents findings to key stakeholders of the organization in a clear and concise manner. When appropriate develops what-if scenarios, discusses business implications of research findings, and completes both risk analysis and return on investment projections.

Designs and implements primary research tools which are unbiased, and do not lead or guide respondents. Assimilates raw data into understandable and useable format as it applies to the business of Grinnell Mutual.

Prepares both oral and written communication and reports which are both standardized and unique to the specific business unit specifications. Reports may be on a repeating basis (i.e. monthly) or on a project basis.

Consults with Business and Support Units to ensure that research initiatives and activities are aligned with broader market and product development objectives

Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with five (5) years insurance experience plus five (5) years experience in market research; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Possess advance knowledge of business, industry, and market information with ability to apply knowledge to business applications. Demonstrated ability to stay current with related regulations and share with affected stakeholders.

Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze data as it applies to the current and future business direction of Grinnell Mutual. Understands the implications of both new and current information to problem solving and decision making.

Ability to make effective recommendations to key stakeholders and decision makers. Ability to use personal judgment, experience, and known facts and figures to influence decisions and affect change for the organizations long term benefit.

Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships in the industry and related industries. Proactively seeks and actively listens for information in both formal and informal settings. Takes time to understand points being made, asks clarifying questions, and refrains from interrupting subject.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, financial reports, and governmental regulations and to formulate opinions, options and recommendations based upon those readings.

Ability to remain flexible to business needs and changes. Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects while anticipating possible impacts and benefits of change.

Demonstrated ability to present information both verbal and written to audiences of various sizes, professional levels, and insurance background. Considered a reliable and credible resource with ability to support conclusions and analysis with additional information when requested.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary company, customer, and client information.

Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

Ability to use general office equipment and demonstrate basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite products including MS Word®, Excel®, Outlook®, and PowerPoint® as well as ability to learn specific applications.
