Description:
Overview
Performs custodial duties in the Grinnell Mutual buildings and property to create a clean, sanitary, safe, and odor-free work environment for our employees and guests.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Cleans a variety of surfaces including all types of floors, walls, windows, furniture, and office partitions. Adheres to specific procedures and regulations regarding the cleaning of all areas, this includes the handling of hazardous and bio-hazardous materials and equipment.

Maintains rest rooms by cleaning and disinfecting toilets, sinks, urinals, partitions, mirrors, stalls, floors, and walls. Replenishes supplies such as paper towels, toilet paper, soap, etc.

Collects trash and transports to designated locations. Sorts, separates, and transports recyclable materials.

Utilizes a variety of cleaning tools and equipment including those with motors and those without motors. Follows applicable safety precautions for the use and handling of various chemicals and cleaning agents.

Performs non-routine cleaning and maintenance tasks on scheduled and non-scheduled basis. May include properties outside of Grinnell.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
High school education and related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to apply basic understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Valid drivers license and ability to adhere to Grinnell Mutual's fleet safety policy.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Ability to operate hand tools. Ability to climb and work from a ladder as needed.

Ability to work in a harmonious manner with co-employees and supervisors.

Ability to work night shift with regular and predictable attendance. Occasionally may be required to work weekend shift.

Ability to accept supervision and complete tasks independently without additional guidance.

Ability to make decisions based on established guidelines.

Ability to use interpersonal communication skills to interact with co-employees, customers and the general public with tact and courtesy.

The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic, or caustic chemicals.

The noise level in the work environment is frequently moderate, and occasionally loud with moderate fumes while operating equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
